Now there are obviously all kinds of different ways you can use leverage with Internet Marketing. You can use other people’s lists, for instance, but most often that’s when you are promoting your own product.
Instead, ABB leverages other people’s work in product creation and customer support to build our list and our business. That’s not to say it isn’t a win-win situation! The people who made the product are getting more sales, so they win. And you get a list and some commissions, so you win as well.
This is the crux of ABB really, using affiliate marketing to leverage other people’s products and create an auto-pilot business.
What’s The Big Deal?
You might not think this is such a big deal, but there’s a lot to be said about promoting someone else’s product instead of producing your own, especially when first building your business.
I realize if you’ve been listening to most gurus out there, that sounds like heresy. To hear them tell it, you MUST make your own product before you make money. And guess what… they’re going to tell you how to do it as soon as you buy THEIR product!
But consider this… just because you make a product doesn’t mean you’ll make money from it.
Sales Aren’t A Given
Let me tell you a story. There was once a person who bought into the hype that the only way to make money on-line is to have your own product. A trusted guru in a field other than internet marketing recommended a program to their list on how to do that, so it must be good, right?
Now this program was a whopping $997, but it had a guarantee as follows:
Alrighty then! Easy enough. Just whip out that credit card, buy the program and follow it, and before you know it you’ve got your money back plus $5-10K more. Credit card paid off, no problem.
Only it didn’t quite work out that way.
What Went Wrong?
First off, there just wasn’t enough time for this person to get through all the materials and create their product in the allotted 90 days. Instead it took a little over 4-months to get the research done, the product made, the website and funnel set up, so too late for the guarantee.
And let’s face it, you’d have to get the product ready in a lot less than 90 days, because you’d need time to make $5-10K!
Secondly, after spending over a thousand dollars for the course and other things needed, this person made not ONE sale of their product.
And it really was a good product.
Making Your Own Product Isn’t Always A Win
Yes, I’m sorry to say that person was me. I wasted 4 months and a lot of money, followed the program exactly, and still did not make any money.
Now that’s not to say it’s never a good thing to make your own product. But it generally works better if you already have a list of your own, and/or can leverage other people’s lists. And even then, as X pointed out, not every product is a winner. Some are going to be duds.
It’s a lot easier on your bottom line and nerves if any duds you market belong to someone else. Then you can quickly switch to another product instead, because as an affiliate marketer you have a whole range of products to choose from instead of just the one you created yourself.
Remember, Seek Out Leverage
If you still aren’t convinced seeking out leverage by using other people’s products is a sound business model, consider this quote:
“It is much easier to put existing resources to better use, than to develop resources where they do not exist.” – George Soros, one of the world’s most successful financiers
If a billionaire thinks it’s smart to use existing resources, why not us?
Save yourself time, effort and money. . . Seek out Leverage.
