Outsourcing Guides

I’ve been obsessed with outsourcing for years now.  And to be honest with you, I’ve mostly wasted a lot of money trying to make it work.

I can recommend two guides and one service to you which have gone a long way to filling in the missing pieces for me.

1.  Work the System by Sam Carpenter

Although the book is considerably fluffed up for my liking it effectively drove home a number of key points.

First and foremost, that God / the Universe / whatever you like to call ‘It’ / rewards good systems and punishes/extinguishes poor systems.  That is indisputable.  The truth, which is a good system, always prevails eventually.

Second, everything is a system.  Even if you think your life is in chaos and there is nothing resembling a system, there is – it’s just a really bad system that’s not working efficiently.  Seeing life in this way has changed my life.  And it offers a lot of hope -

2.  Sourcecontrol

This book speaks more practical application for you and I.  It’s more than a “Make a million dollars per year sitting on a beach while people in the 3rd world do all your work for you” book.

It actually points out different ways of outsourcing different work.  Some work should be outsourced to a full-time employ in a distant land – other work is much more efficiently done by crowd sourcing it.  Understanding who should do what in the way this book explains it should be required reading for anyone who’s considered or considered – or even currently employs – an outsourcer.  Again, a real paradigm shifter.

3.  After consuming the above, check out onlinejobs.ph John Jonas makes a strong case for hiring Filipino’s and this is the place to find those seeking online employment at very reasonable rates.

Two words of caution here though -

1.  It’s remarkable how many 20 year old Filipino’s consider themselves to have ‘advanced’ skills in a wide variety of tasks – don’t believe it.  Or rather assume that ‘advanced’ to them means something other than it means to you and I.

2.  Read John’s tips for hiring and FOLLOW HIS SAGE ADVICE. Bolded, italicized and underlined for emphasis!  Most especially I recommend that you give out a sample task and that it is done to your EXACT specifications.  Do not, under any circumstance, hire anyone who does not do the sample task you require.

I did – once.  I was in a rush and the dude I hired seemed like a real prize employee.  But . . . It was a complete waste of money because this person didn’t do anything and that was not discovered until after I’d paid him hundreds of dollars for doing nothing.  I should have seen it coming when he blew off the test task and like a dunderhead I allowed that formality to slide.

In short, I got scammed and I’d expect that is a trend that will only continue to occur in the future – you’ve been warned.  Don’t be in a rush – do your due diligence.
